[REC]

How did I miss this one? Released on DVD just this monday I had never heard hide nor hair about this intelligent-looking Spanish horror movie that has suddenly exploded onto the scene. Not one to miss horror films, this has left me feeling truly perplexed that I hadn't even heard of it. My colleague might wish to reply that this might have something to do with the fact that I never make it to the cinema. Anyway, here's a nice up-to-date DVD review for our many readers.

Will give this a whirl and woe betide you if I hate it!

I reckon we can call this an 08 release since it was released worldwide this year and only bowed in Spain in 07.

So the question is, is it better than Cloverfield?

You will obviously hate it : )

Seriously, if you don't like horror you may well hate it. You could always leave it until your next visit to Leicester so you won't have to pay for renting a copy, and I'll ply you with Smirnoff Ice.

Still, I'll have to say, you should watch it anyway and I'll take the repercussions if you give it an F.

I made sure I applied my new, patented, "giddy test" to this, where I soberly reflect on a film for a day and make sure it isn't pure gidiness that made me want to give it a good grade. To be honest, this started as an A- but the longer my sleepless night went on and I thought about it, it crept up to an A, then onto a plus. I could see me possibly removing the + if a second watch doesn't stand up to scrutiny. In fact, I think I might go and watch it again now : )

Is it better than Cloverfield? Hmm. Well, I guess our readers will have to wait until year end to find out... Could it be the first time in MyFilmVault history when two 'live actioners' fill the top two spaces???

What's this? A film that I have seen and Adam hasn't. Surely too good an opportunity to miss.

While I enjoyed [Rec], I cannot shower it with the same glowing praise that Matt chooses to. I don't have time to go into details now (and I don't want to pre-empt another of Matt's soon to surface reviews), but I didn't really see anything to warrant an A+. I have theories as to why this may be, but I'll save those for another time also.
